Kentucky summers swell wood, and loose hinge screws let a door sag toward the latch side. Together they cause most of the rubbing we see.

Try this first

Tighten every hinge screw. If the top hinge screws spin, replace one with a 3-inch screw that reaches the framing — it pulls the door back into square.

• The frame itself is out of square
• The latch won't meet the strike after tightening
• Exterior doors that let in daylight or drafts
